Radon Diva recently took a course about radon gas from a physician’s perspective. It was an extremely informative course, and we took away some really great information about the health effects of radon gas. We would like to share one point that really resonated with us.
Radon-induced lung cancer takes the lives of 21,000 individuals in the United States each year. Smoking takes the lives of 160,000 individuals each year. Now some may say radon-induced lung cancer pales in comparison to lung cancer caused by smoking. However, it is still a significant number compared to other carcinogens. The below chart illustrates this significance. Compare the 21,000 lives lost due to radon-induced lung cancer to the lives lost to other cancers.
